61 61 082 Removing And Installing Left Windscreen Wiper Arm (Driver's Side)

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Both windscreen wiper arms are secured with significantly  different torques.

Move windscreen wiper system into rest position with diagnosis  of "assembly position" service function.

Remove cover cap (1) in direction of arrow.

Installation: 

Make sure locks (1) are correctly engaged.

Version 1: 

Water jet hose (1) connected to distributor

IMPORTANT: At low outside temperatures, carefully heat water jet hose (1) in area of distributor (4) with hot air blower.

Detach water jet hose (1) by turning.

Unlock connector (2) and remove.

Installation: 

Check sealing ring on distributor (4) for damage, replace if necessary.

To prevent cable (5) from being chafed on water jet hose (1), cable (5) must be below water jet hose (1).

Type 2: 

Water jet hose (1) with gray slide (2) (quick-release coupling)

For releasing, push slide (2) of quick-release coupling forwards until it snaps audibly into place.

Pull off hose (1).

Installation: 

Check sealing ring on distributor for damage, replace if necessary.

To facilitate installation, coat sealing ring with antiseize agent.

For fitting, push slide (2) of quick-release coupling back until it snaps audibly into place. Push water jet hose (1) onto distributor.

Unfasten nut.

Detach wiper arm.

IMPORTANT: Do not bend wiper arm when removing it (risk of breakage).

Use special tool 61 6 060  to detach wiper arms or adjusting disk.

Pull off adjusting disk (4) with special tool 61 6 060. 

Installation: 

Always replace adjusting disk (4).

Installation: 

Join adjusting disk (4) and wiper arm (3) to each other (fit) and slide together onto shaft (5).

Replace adjusting element (2).

Screw adjusting element (2) and nut (1) partially onto shaft (5) but do not screw down fully yet.

Installation: 

  1. Position wiper blade above marking (2) on windscreen.
  2. Place special tool 00 9 331  at height of pivot point of wiper blade on windscreen.
  3. Turn wiper arm until no gap can be seen between special tool 00 9 331  and wiper blade.
  4. Hold wiper arm in this position and tighten down nut (1) to tightening torque 61 61 12AZ  . See GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
  5. Adhere to settling time, refer to tightening torque 61 61 12AZ. See GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
  6. Tighten down nut (1) again to tightening torque 61 61 12AZ.  See GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
  7. Perform two flick wipes.
  8. Check adjustment, refer to point (B); if there is a light gap, adjust contact angle.

IMPORTANT: Observe tightening specification without fail (risk of detaching).
