61 21 010 Removing And Installing Battery

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove flap in luggage compartment panel on right. See 51 47 172 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FLAP IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM, LEFT OR RIGHT .
- Remove battery cover . See 61 21 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING BATTERY COVER .
- Disconnect battery negative lead . See 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
- Remove spare wheel
Unscrew nut (1).
Tightening torque 61 21 1AZ. See GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
IMPORTANT:
Do not under any circumstances pull/lever safety battery terminal off by force.
Detach safety battery terminal (2) towards top, lay to one side and secure.
Release screw (2) and remove bracket (1).
Detach vent hose from battery.
Pull out battery.
Installation:
Make sure battery is correctly seated in mounting.
