Axle Shafts: Removal

- Apply hand brake. Unclip hub cover. Unscrew collar nut. See Fig 1 . Remove rear wheel. Remove stabilizer link from stabilizer bar at rear by removing nut. If necessary, grip at Torx socket. Remove stabilizer link from swinging arm by removing nut. If necessary, grip at Torx socket. See Fig 2 . Remove rear spring strut shock absorber from wheel carrier/swinging arm by first removing rear luggage compartment wheel arch trim to access upper nuts. See LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM .
- Remove top spring strut nuts. See Fig 3 . Support wheel carrier with jack. Remove bolt. See Fig 4 . Lower jack and grip rear spring strut shock firmly and force it off wheel carrier. Guide rear spring strut shock absorber downward between guide arm and control arm. Lift out spring strut. See Fig 5 . Unfasten bolts. See Fig 6 . Cover swinging arm with a cloth. Press axle shaft off drive flange with a small screw driver and place on the cloth. See Fig 7 . Press axle shaft out of drive flange and remove toward center of vehicle.
