1.15.13 Diagnosis of Knock Sensor: Notes

The knock sensor diagnosis is capable of detecting a leadless knock sensor (circuit discontinuity), short circuits to battery or ground as well as plausibility faults. In addition the response of this diagnosis (e.g. increased noise level due to an enlarged piston groove) can detect a pending engine damage. The knock sensor diagnosis runs continuously and employs the same strategy to check each an every sensor.

The knock sensor diagnosis employs two different methods to ascertain the complete detection of all knock sensor faults circuit continuity check via the CC196 IC and monitoring via knock sensor- and sensor-based reference noise signal.
