00 00 610 Engine oil service (N52K)

The FRU item 00 00 610 comprises the engine oil service incl. supplementary service.
Only the engine oil service will be described in these repair instructions.
The supplementary service is made up of the following operations which must be taken from the relevant repair instructions:
- Carry out function check on parking brake . See 34 10 014 ADJUSTING HANDBRAKE .
- Reset service interval indicator according to factory specification
Observe the exact engine oil filling capacity.
Overfilling the engine with engine oil will result in engine damage.
Inspection and drain-off times must be observed.
When working on the engine oil, coolant or fuel circuit, it is essential always to protect the alternator against contamination.
Cover alternator with suitable materials.
Carry out work on the vehicle only when wearing oil - and heat-resistant protective gloves incl. forearm protection, face guard and protective apron.
Recycling:
Catch and dispose of drained engine oil in a suitable container.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
- Open oil filter cap.
- Release screw plug in oil sump.
Release oil filter cap with special tool 11 9 240.
Tightening torque 11 42 1AZ, see 11 42 OIL FILTER AND PIPES (N51) or 11 42 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FULLFLOW OIL FILTER (N52) .
Remove and insert oil filter element (1) in direction of arrow.
Installation:
Replace oil filter element (1) and sealing rings (2).
Other model series may differ in certain details in the graphics.
Unclip service opening on underbody protection.
Remove screw plug (1) from oil sump and drain engine oil.
Tightening torque 11 13 1AZ, see OIL SUMP (N51) or OIL SUMP (N52) .
Installation:
Replace sealing ring.
Assemble engine.
Pour in engine oil.
Turn off engine.
Check oil filter cap and screw plug (1) on oil sump for leaks.
Checking engine oil level:
- Park vehicle on a horizontal surface
- Allow engine at normal operating temperature to run for three minutes with increased revs (approx. 1100 RPM)
- Read off engine oil level in instrument cluster or on Control Display
- Top up engine oil if necessary
