11 53 000 Removing and Installing/Replacing Coolant Thermostat (N73)

Recycling: 

Catch and dispose of coolant.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove assembly underguard at front.
• Remove coolant drain plug on radiator. See 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (N73)
• Remove fan. See 11 52 020 Removing and Installing Or Replacing Fan Clutch (N73) 

Disconnect plug (1).

Disconnect water hose (2).

Release screws on coolant thermostat (3).

Remove coolant thermostat (3).

Illustrations show N62.

Clean sealing surfaces.

Replace sealing ring (1).

Installation: 

Coolant thermostat is integrated in cover and can only be replaced as a complete unit.

Assemble engine.

Top up coolant.

Vent cooling system and check for leaks. See 17 00 039 VENTING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR LEAKS (N73)
