72 12 004 Removing and installing/replacing airbag module for driver's knee protection

Special tools required:

00 9 317

WARNING: Read and comply with safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause in jury.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect negative battery cable . See 61 00 ... SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING VEHICLE BATTERY .
Remove trim panel for pedal assembly .

Release screws (1).

Installation:

Replace screws.

Tightening torque 72 12 19AZ. See AIRBAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Unlock plug connection (3) and disconnect.

Lever out airbag module for driver's knee protection (4) with special tool 00 9 317 at holding points (5) and remove.

IMPORTANT: Always replace airbag module for driver's knee protection completely.
Do not carry out any repairs to the airbag module.

Installation:

Make sure retainers (1) are correctly seated on associated locators on airbag module (2).

Replace retainers (1).
