E60, E61, E63, E64 - Aerial Diversity

Installation location

Aerial diversity is located on the upper right on the rear window in a carrier housing. The carrier housing is glued to the rear window. Aerial diversity is connected to the carrier housing.

Construction

Aerial diversity contains the aerial amplifier for:

the FM1-4 (VHF) aerial
the AM (MW, SW, LW) aerial
the FBD (remote control services) aerial

The power supply of the aerial amplifier for FM and AM is supplied via the terminal RAD_ON. Power to the amplifier for remote control services is supplied via terminal 30. In vehicles with TV function, aerial diversity also contains the aerial amplifier for:

TV1 aerial
TV2 aerial

Power is supplied to the two aerial amplifiers from video module 5 via separate coaxial cables.

How it works

The aerial signals are transferred via spring contacts on the carrier housing to the aerial amplifiers. One of the FM1-4 aerials is selected for reception via the "Aerial diversity" function. If the aerial signal of one of the 4 aerials decreases, one of the other aerials with the strongest reception is automatically selected. Aerial diversity is switched via the intermediate frequency signal of the two-tuner radio. The intermediate frequency signal is transmitted from the two-tuner radio to the aerial amplifier by the coaxial cable. The aerial signals for AM, FBD, TV1 and TV2 are each amplified by their own aerial amplifier.
