Removal & Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 BMW 530i, 2003 BMW 525i, 2002 BMW 530i, 2002 BMW 525i, and 2001 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove engine splash guard. See 13 32 051 REPLACING FUEL FILTER (M54)
- Unfasten nuts (1 and 2). Remove control arm from front axle support. See Fig 1.
- Force off ball joint with special tool (31 2 240). See Fig 2.
- Remove grease from tapered spigot and bore.
- Fit washer (3). Replace self-locking nut. If necessary, brace on hex cap head. See Fig 1. Replace self-locking nuts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install engine splash guard.
- Perform front axle alignment check. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
