Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 BMW 745i, 2004 BMW 745Li, 2003 BMW 745i, 2003 BMW 745Li, and 2002 BMW 745i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: AIRBAG unit must be placed with padded cushion facing upward.
  1. Remove AIRBAG unit. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  2. Move steering wheel/wheels to straight ahead position. Release screw, pull off connectors and remove steering wheel. See Fig 1 .
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure wheels are in straight ahead position. Locking pin (1) must engage in recess of driver (2). Fit steering wheel. Steering wheel can only be installed in one position on steering spindle due to serration. See Fig 2 .
  4. Install steering wheel screw and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
