Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW X5, 2005 BMW X5, 2004 BMW X5, 2003 BMW X5, and 2002 BMW X5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove wheel.
  2. Release control arm nut (1) and guide joint screws (2). See Fig 1.
  3. CAUTION: If guide joint has been driven out with special tool, it must be replaced.
  4. Remove guide joint from swivel bearing. If guide joint is firmly seated in swivel bearing, screw special tool (33 4 205) onto taper pin and drive out with special tool (33 4 200). See Fig 2.
  5. Screw on nut a few turns so that guide joint does not slip off unchecked when forced off. Press guide joint with special tool (31 2 240) out of tension strut. Unscrew nut and remove guide joint. See Fig 3.
  6. Installation is reverse of removal. Replace self-locking nut, grip hexagon socket if necessary. Tighten nut and screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
