Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 2003 BMW 530i, 2003 BMW 525i, 2002 BMW M5, 2002 BMW 540i, and 2002 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL .
  2. Remove clamping screw and remove joint from steering gear. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove clamping bolt. Press spindle downwards and remove. See Fig 2.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure that rubber grommet is correctly located in end wall. Clamping screw is located in the retaining of the upper steering spindle. See Fig 2. Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Tighten clamping screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
