41 14 511 Replacing Complete Rear Left Wheel Arch (Rear Left Side Panel Removed)

Spot-weld bonding is used on this vehicle. Observe specific procedure  , see 41 00... Spot-weld bonding steel parts .

Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are susceptible to heat or dust.

Use only approved spot-welding apparatus  for repairs, see WORKSHOP EQUIPMENT !

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Following new body parts are required (refer to BMW Electronic Parts Catalogue):

Roughly cut C-pillar reinforcement along line (1).

Open weld joints in areas (2).

Remove sheet section.

Installation: 

Replace both cavity acoustic baffles  (3), see 41 00... Installing a cavity acoustic baffle (not expanded) .

Open weld joints in area (1).

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with measurement and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer metal sheet only.

Measurement a = 20 mm

Open weld joints in area (2).

Open weld joints in areas (1).

Roughly cut rear wheel arch along line (2).

Remove wheel arch section.

Open weld joints in areas (2).

Remove sheet sections.

Roughly cut wheel arch along line (1).

Open weld joints in area (2).

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with measurement and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer metal sheet only.

Measurement a = approx. 70 mm from roof edge.

Open welding spot joints in areas (2).

Installation: 

Weld in reinforcement plate  at severance cut, see 41 00... Welding in reinforcement plate (steel plate) .

Remove metal section (3).

Perform only severance cut (1) on new part.

Roughly mark severance cuts (1) and cut.

Open weld joints in areas (2).

Remove sheet section.

Open weld joints in areas (1).

Installation: 

Replace cavity acoustic baffle  (2), see 41 00... Installing a cavity acoustic baffle (not expanded) .

Open weld joints in area (1).

Roughly mark severance cuts (2) and cut.

Remove sheet sections.

Roughly cut D-pillar reinforcement along line (1).

Open weld joints in areas (2).

Remove remaining parts of wheel arch.

Installation: 

Apply window glass adhesive to cavity acoustic baffle  (3), see 41 00... Installing a cavity acoustic baffle (expanded) .

Preparation of new part: 

Mark new part (rear wheel arch outer half) in accordance with severance cut on vehicle + 20 mm extra material and cut (1).

Weld new part in area (2) overlapping.

Preparation of new part: 

Open weld joints in area (1) and remove bulkhead plate.

Mark severance cut (2) in accordance with body and cut.

Installation: 

Weld new components in areas (1) additionally.
