Observe gap dimensions  . See BODY GAP DIMENSIONS .

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove front bumper trim  . See 51 11 156 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BUMPER TRIM .
• Remove wheel arch cover at front  . See 51 71 038 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER (FRONT SECTION) .
• Remove trim for cover on side member  . See 51 71 447 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING PANEL FOR COVER ON LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE MEMBER .
• Remove trim on wheel arch  . See 51 71 470 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM ON FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL ARCH .
• Remove gutter strip  . See .51 31 023 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT GUTTER STRIP ALONG WINDSCREEN .

Release screws.

Installation note: 

• Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must be replaced and may not be reused.
• Screw connection must be completed within 20 minutes. (after which hardening begins).
• Microencapsulated screws must not be retightened.
• Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use.

Release screws and remove strut (1). Tightening torque, see 51 11 5AZ in 51 11 FRONT BUMPER .

For vehicles with auxiliary oil cooler only: Lever out retaining clip (1) at bottom and detach towards rear. Remove oil cooler and tie back.

For vehicles with auxiliary oil cooler only: Release screw (1). Tightening torque, see 17 22 5AZ.22 OIL COOLER LINES .

For vehicles with auxiliary oil cooler only: Release screws (2) and remove holding frame for oil cooler. Tightening torque, see 17 22 5AZ in 22 OIL COOLER LINES .

View of wheel arch from below: Unlock connector (1) for headlight (2) and disconnect. Release screws (3).

Pull out clamp (1) in direction of arrow. Take off side wall.
