51 71 115 Replacing seal on left or right front door

Necessary preliminary tasks 

NOTE: Follow "INSTRUCTIONS"  for sticking components with double-sided adhesive tape.

The positioning of the seal must be performed at two points on the front door with positioning aids to be stuck on.

Positioning aids are included with new seals.

Position of seal (3) on front door:

Area (A) at distance (G) to door rabbet.

Area (B) at line (A) to positioning aids (2) to be stuck on. Positioning aid (2) must be stuck on flush with door outer skin (4).

Area (C) at distance (E) to door inner panel.

Area (D) at distance (F) to door fold.

Clean bonding surfaces on paint with adhesive cleaner.

  1. E = 4.5 mm
  2. F = 3 mm
  3. G = 1.5 mm

Positioning aid "A1" for front door, left ("B1" right)

Detach prestamped positioning aid from backing.

Align positioning aid with printed help marking (X), bore and contact edge (B) to front door and press.

Contact edge (B) must be flush with door inner panel.

Adhesive tape of seal must rest on positioning edge (A) during sticking.

  1. X Start of bend radius

Positioning aid "A2" for front door, left ("B2" right)

Detach prestamped positioning aid from backing.

Align positioning aid with printed help markings (X, Y), bores and contact edge (B) to front door and press.

Contact edge (B) must be flush with door inner panel.

Adhesive tape of seal must rest on positioning edge (A) during sticking.

  1. X Start of bend radius
  2. Y: Bore for door lock
    IMPORTANT:
    • Do not grip bonding surface
    • It is not the length of pressing in time but rather the level of pressing (approx. 10... 15 N/cm2 ) which is decisive here.
    • Separation of seal after pressing destroys the adhesive layer
NOTE: After being pressed on gently, seal can be pulled off again up to 3 times. Do not dirty adhesive area.

Clean bonding surfaces on paint with adhesive cleaner.

Suspend seal (1) with open lip pointing inwards over door.

IMPORTANT: Contact point of seal must be situated on underside of door after gluing.

Glue seal as follows:

Remove positioning aids and assemble front door.
