12 42 500 Removing and installing or replacing battery positive lead (S62)

Switch off ignition.

Observe safety instructions for handling vehicle battery. Refer to 61 00 ... SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING VEHICLE BATTERY .

Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery  .

Remove battery negative lead from battery and cover.

Release screws.

Press floor trim panel (1) downwards slightly.

Detach cap (1) from battery positive lead.

Release nut on battery positive lead.

Detach battery positive lead from shrink-fit hose (2).

Release nut.

Installation: 

Tightening torque, 12 41 4AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Disconnect battery positive lead (1) from starter motor.

Release cable ties (1).

Unclip battery positive lead (3) from cable holders (2).

Release nut.

Unclip battery positive lead (1) from cable holders (2).

Release nut (1) on alternator.

Installation: 

Tightening torque, 12 31 1AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Remove battery positive lead from alternator.

Release screw connection of battery positive cable at battery positive connection point (1).

Installation: 

Tightening torque, 12 51 4AZ. Refer to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Release screws (2).

Remove ignition coil cover (3).

Remove battery positive lead.
