52 16 ... Additional work in event of faulty longitudinal adjustment drive

NOTE: Before beginning this additional work, make sure the longitudinal seat adjustment gearing is not faulty.

To carry out this work, you must acquire the following spare parts (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service):

Preparations for additional work: 

Remove long flex shafts from flex shaft sleeves (1).

Detach connecting pieces (2) on one side of flex shaft sleeve (1).

Slide flex shafts back into sleeves.

NOTE: If necessary, detach connecting piece with a screwdriver from flex shaft sleeve.
Do not cut off flex shaft sleeve. Guide of flex shaft must not be shortened.

Detach short flex shaft (1) on left and right from gearing (2).

Secure free ends of flex shafts.

Slide long flex shaft (1) with end without connecting piece on gear on left and right into guide as far as it will go.

NOTE: Make sure square sections engage correctly in bearings.
CAUTION: Do not activate seat adjustment gearing individually.
The seat tilts into the guide rails and locks into place.

Connect end of flex shaft (1) with connecting piece (2) to servomotor (3).

NOTE: Make sure square sections engage correctly in servomotor.
CAUTION: Secure motor by hand. If necessary, call on a second person to provide assistance.

Provide 12 V power source.

Connect servomotor (1) with special tool 61 2 090 (adapter) to power source and move seat in desired direction until screws for securing seat are accessible.

If necessary, change polarity of power source and move seat in opposite direction.
