Instrument Panel Trim (Lower Section): Removal

  1. Detach side padding in footwell from center console (dual-lock tape).
  2. Release screws (1) and remove trim (2) of glove box housing towards bottom. See Fig 1 .
  3. Remove footwell light (1) and disconnect plug connection. Release all 8 screws and remove speaker cover (2). See Fig 2 .
  4. Open glove box. Release screws (1) and lower glove box in direction of seat. See Fig 3 .
  5. Disconnect plug connection (1) from holder (2). See Fig 4 .
  6. Remove AIRBAG module on passenger side. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  7. Lever out cover for instrument panel (1) with special tool (00 9 317) and remove. Disconnect plug connection. See Fig 5 .
  8. Remove knob for light switch (1). Release screws (2) and remove cover (3). See Fig 6 .
  9. Remove instrument cluster (2) by loosening screws (1). Disconnect plug connector. See Fig 7 .
  10. Unscrew bolt (1) for center fresh air grill. Turn adjusting wheels (2) in direction of arrow as far as they will go. Lever out fresh air grill center (3) with special tool (00 9 340) and remove. See Fig 8 .
    11. CAUTION: Cover trim with fabric adhesive tape (1) to prevent damage to instrument panel trim. See Fig 9 .
  11. Loosen heater control screws (2). Remove heating controls (3). Disconnect plug connection. See Fig 9 .
  12. Loosen screws (1) on left fresh air grill. Pull out fresh air grill (2). See Fig 10 . Repeat procedure on right fresh air grill.
  13. Remove trim for pedal assembly. See TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY  .
  14. Release screws (1 & 2) on left. See Fig 11 .
  15. Release screws (1 & 2) in middle. See Fig 12 .
  16. Release screws (1 & 2) on right. See Fig 13 .
  17. Partially detach door rubber on A pillars. Pull panel approximately 3.9" (10cm) in direction of vehicle interior and disconnect plug connection on ENGINE START button. Remove panel towards bottom with assistance of a second person.
