61 21 010 Removing and installing battery

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Open luggage compartment floor panel flap in load area
- Remove spare wheel/emergency wheel
- Secure removal aid to luggage compartment floor trim panel
- If necessary, remove baseplate for emergency wheel
Version with air suspension:
IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage! Do not kink, twist or crush pipes.
Release screws (1). Lay air supply unit (2) with wiring harness and pipes to one side.
Release nut (1), tightening torque 61 21 1AZ. Refer to GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES
Detach battery negative terminal (2) towards top, lay to one side and secure.
Unlock positive terminal cover (3) and open. Release nut (4) of safety battery terminal, tightening torque 61 21 1AZ. Refer to GENERAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES
IMPORTANT:
Do not under any circumstances pull/lever safety battery terminal off by force.
Detach safety battery terminal towards top, lay to one side and secure.
Detach vent (5) in direction of arrow. Release threaded pin (6) and remove holder. Lift out battery.
Installation:
Make sure battery is correctly seated in associated fixture.
