51 16 026 Replacing mirror glass for rearview mirror (M5)

NOTE:

For Special Tool identification, see BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS - 5-SERIES (E39) .

Special Tools Required: 

CAUTION: Bring vehicle to room temperature so that adhesive tape can be released.
WARNING: If mirror glass is damaged: Wear protective goggles and tear-proof gloves while removing mirror glass. Risk of injury by flaking-off glass splinters.

Tilt mirror glass upwards.

Tape off housing edge with adhesive tape (1) (risk of damage).

Slide hole (2) of bayonet lock to right, same for right and left sides.

Bayonet lock (2) must be completely unlocked.

Lever out mirror glass with special tool 51 9 317 (trim panel wedge).

Unhook cable (1) for automatic anti-glare control from holder (2).

Disconnect plug connections (3) for mirror heating and turn mirror glass (4) downwards.

Disconnect plug connection (1) and remove mirror glass (2).

Installation: 

Following parts must not be damaged:

Do not touch or dirty adhesive area (2).

Installation: 

Position mirror glass with guide pins (1) on mounts on servodrive.

Slide bayonet lock to left until hole is vertical.

Check function.
