Coil Spring: Installation

WARNING: When tensioned, the spring coils must rest completely in the spring holder recess. The special tool must not be tightened or untightened with an impact screwdriver. The coils may not be tensioned on a block.
NOTE: The M5 coil spring with the protective hose must be fitted facing upwards to the support bearing.
  1. Insert new coil spring in special tool in such a way that a coil is outside spring holders on both ends.

  3. Insert shock absorber into coil spring. One threaded pin (1) on the thrust bearing must be on one plane with the bore on the rubber mount (2) and the opposite side of the bushing (3). See Fig 1. Observe installation sequence. See Fig 2.
  4. Replace self-locking nut. Grip with ring wrench and tighten down with special tool (31 2 210). Brace with ring wrench. See Figure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Only relieve tension on special tool until spring coils can move freely.
  6. Install spring strut shock absorber in vehicle. See SPRING STRUT SHOCK ABSORBER .
