12 42 510 Replacing battery positive lead (between starter motor and B+ terminal) (M54 / M56)
Read fault memory. Switch off ignition.
Observe safety instructions for handling vehicle battery.
Remove front underbody protection.
Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery, refer to 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Disconnect battery negative lead from battery and lay to one side.
Open cable duct on lower section of microfilter housing and feed out battery positive lead (1).
Fold up protective cap (1).
Unscrew nut (2).
Disconnect battery positive lead (3) from connection point.
Installation:
Tightening torque of screw (2), refer to 12 51 4AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - 325I, CI & XI - E46 .
Remove cover for fuel injectors.
Unclip battery positive lead (1) from holder (2).
If fitted:
Remove vacuum reservoir for exhaust flap.
Unscrew nut (1).
Installation:
Tightening torque, refer to 12 41 4AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUES - 325I, CI & XI - E46 .
Disconnect battery positive lead (2) from starter motor.
Remove battery positive lead.
- Read out fault memory of DME control unit.
- Check stored faults.
- Rectify faults.
- Clear fault memory.
