64 22 161 Removing and installing / replacing center fresh-air grille (air conditioner control)

Remove complete instrument panel, refer to 62 21 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE INSTRUMENT CARRIER

Insert special tool 00 9 300 between upper fresh-air grill (1) and frame (2).

Pry upper fresh-air grill out of detent at points 1-3 in sequence and remove.

Unfasten screws. Pry out frame for air outlet at top and disconnect plug connector of indicator lamp (1).

Disconnect plug connector for stratification adjuster of fresh-air grill above cut-out of removed instrument carrier.

Release connector housing from bracket with screwdriver.

Unfasten screw (1) and remove spacer (2).

Close fresh-air grill.

Press fresh-air grill somewhat upward and first guide in two special tools 00 9 300 at bottom between fresh-air grill and instrument panel until retaining hooks (1) audibly release.

Proceed for the upper retaining hooks (1) in the same manner.

The special tools 00 9 300 hold the retaining hooks in the released position.

Reach through the opening (1) with both hands and push out the fresh-air grill.
