Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2000 BMW Z3, 2000 BMW 328i, 2000 BMW 323i, 1999 BMW Z3, and 1999 BMW M3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Remove passenger-side air vent. Using a pry tool, release air bag cover clips from dash. Remove screw and lift off air bag cover. DO NOT allow tension to occur on air bag cover strap(s) when removing passenger-side air bag or cover. Remove screws and lift passenger-side air bag module from dash. Raise passenger air bag module and disconnect air bag electrical connector. Remove air bag from vehicle.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Activate air bag system. Perform system operation check to ensure system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
