11 61 050 Removing and installing intake air manifold (S62)

Remove intake filter housing upper section with air-mass flow sensor. See INTAKE SILENCER

E39 Only:

Instructions apply to removing and installing both air ducts on left and right.

Release retaining clips (1).

CAUTION: The air ducts can break at the firewall if not carefully removed and installed.

Carefully turn air duct (2) upwards so that it is no longer locked in firewall. Pull air duct (2) forwards and lift out.

NOTE: A bracket for cable duct is screwed down with nut (1).

Release outer nuts.
Release nuts (2).

Installation:

Install all nuts.
Tighten down nuts (2) to approx. 5 N.m.
Tighten down remaining nuts to approx. 5 N.m.
Tighten all nuts to approx. 10 N.m.

NOTE: The funnels (1) for cylinders 2/3/4/6/7/8 are identical parts. The funnels (2 and 3) for cylinders 1 and 5 are different. Release nuts and remove funnels (1 to 3).

Installation:

Replace nuts.

Slacken screws (2) and then screws (1) from outside to inside approx. one turn.

Remove screws (2) and then screws (1).

Installation:

Install all bolts.

Tighten screws (1) and then screws (2) from inside to outside to preliminary torque of approx. 5 N.m.

Tighten down screws (1 and 2) from inside to outside to 10 N.m.

Installation:

Replace sealing rings (1) and gasket (2).

Unclip plug connection (1) from holder.

Release screws (2) on oil separator.

NOTE: Hoses on oil separator remain connected.

Carefully pull oil separator forward out of intake air manifold.

Release hose clamps (1) and remove hoses.

Remove intake air manifold. Refer to 11 61 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE AIR MANIFOLD (S62) .
