Level Control Pump
- Check oil level for power steering unit. It should be approximately 25 mm below the edge.
- Remove splash guard.
- Unfasten line (3) to control valve on the power steering pump. See Fig 1 .
- Prepare special tool (32 4 000) or (54 3 100). See Fig 2 .
- Attach special tool (37 2 021/022) and install between pump and line. See Fig 4 .
- Unfasten control rod joint from lever on control valve.
- Start engine.
- Move lever on control valve in forwards direction. Tail of vehicle lifts. Read off pressure. The maximum pressure is 1668-1886 psi (115-130) bar.
- Move lever into center position.
- Move lever into reverse direction and read off pressure in each case. Nominal value is minimum pressure of 392-479 psi (27-33 bar).
- Remove pressure gauge, replace gaskets and tighten line connections to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Check steering pump oil level again.
CAUTION:
Non-return valve (A) must be closed for high pressure measurements. If not there could be damage to pressure gauge. Non-return valve (A) is low pressure, 0-218 psi (0-15 bar) closed. Non-return valve (B) is high pressure, 0-2176 psi (0-150 bar) open. See Fig 3
