18 12 061 Replacing center muffler: Notes

Removing and installing complete exhaust system, refer to 18 00 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM (M52, M60, M62) 

Measure length (B) of pipe sections on new center muffler.

Transfer dimension (B) obtained to the removed exhaust system.

Cut through and deburr exhaust pipes using special tool 00 2 210.

Cut through both exhaust pipes between catalytic converter and center muffler on welded seam using grinder.

NOTE: Exhaust pipes on center muffler and catalytic converter are connected together and welded.

Grind away residual welded beads from center muffler.

Remove tube socket from catalytic converter pipes.

NOTE: If it is not possible to remove the tube socket from the catalytic converter pipes, the appropriate length of pipe must be cut off the new center muffler.

CAUTION: The apertures on the new center muffler are sealed with adhesive film.
Remove adhesive films, including those on contact faces of clamping sleeves.

Secure new center muffler and clamping sleeves to catalytic converter.

NOTE: Nuts point downwards.

Fit both rear mufflers.
