Removal & Installation (5-Series & 7-Series)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air bag/steering wheel assembly. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
  2. Disconnect steering column adjustment, wiper switch and dimmer switch electrical connectors. Remove 4 steering column switch assembly screws. See Figure. Unclip windshield wiper switch connector clips. If necessary, remove steering column adjustment switch. Unlock clips and pull out dimmer switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.
