11 62 140 Removing and installing both exhaust manifolds with catalytic converters (M52TU / M54 / M56)

Special tools required:

NOTE: For special tools, refer to ENGINE - SPECIAL TOOLS .

Remove microfilter. See 64 31 010 REPLACING MICROFILTER FOR INTERIOR VENTILATION

Open cable guide on lower section of microfilter housing (2) and feed out cable (s).

Release screws (1) and remove lower section of microfilter housing (2).

Assemble special tool 00 0 200 with special tools 00 0 201 / 00 0 202 / 00 0 204 / 00 0 208 and fit.

Secure special tool 00 0 200 to front suspension eye on engine.

NOTE: The supports (1) of special tool 00 0 208 must rest on the bolt connection of both side walls.

Tighten the screws (1 and 2).

Release nuts on engine mount on left and right.

Raise engine with special tool 00 0 200 approx. 5 mm.

Remove exhaust system. See Figure or MANUAL TRANSMISSION

NOTE: Vehicles with front end reinforcement:

Remove front end reinforcement. See 51 71 374 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REINFORCEMENT PLATE ON FRONT AXLE SUPPORT

Remove right engine support arm with engine mount.

NOTE: The oxygen sensors are in danger of being damaged when the exhaust manifolds are removed and installed.

If necessary, remove control sensors.

Remove cover from injection valves.

NOTE: Monitor sensors must be marked, risk of mixing up cylinders 1-3 and 4-6.

Unclip the cable from the retainer. Disconnect plug connection. Unclip cable on rear side of engine from cable guide.

NOTE: Rear exhaust manifold with catalytic converter can only be removed after front exhaust manifold with catalytic converter has first been removed.

Remove monitor sensor on front exhaust manifold. Sensor. See OXYGEN SENSOR
Remove front exhaust manifold with catalytic converter. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Remove monitor sensor on rear exhaust manifold.
Remove rear exhaust manifold with catalytic converter. MANUAL TRANSMISSION

Installation:

Clean sealing faces, replace gaskets.

Coat threads with copper paste.

Replace nuts.

Tightening torque, refer to 11 62 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES .
