Coil Spring: Removal
WARNING:
Prior to each use, check special tools for functional capability. Do not use special tools which are damaged. Never tighten or untighten special tool with an impact screwdriver. The special tool is intended for tensioning and relieving the tension on suspension springs.
- Remove spring strut shock absorber. See SPRING STRUT SHOCK ABSORBER .
- Clamp special tool (31 3 341) at guide (1) in vise. Insert spring retainers from chamfer of special tool. Locking pins (2) must be felt and heard snapping in to place. Check seating of spring holders (31 3 353). See Fig 1.
- Completely insert spring coils in the recess of the spring holder.
- Tighten down the coil springs only until stress on the thrust bearing is relieved. The coils must not be tightened to their full extent.
- Unfasten nut with special tool (31 2 210). Brace with ring wrench. See Fig 2.
- Remove shock absorber.
- Release special tool (31 3 341) and remove coil spring.
