51 34 191 Replacing fixed door window in frame, rear left or right (Protection)

NOTE: For gluing the door window, glues for cold and hot processing are permitted.
Remove rear left or right door window glass,
refer to 51 34 171 REPLACING DOOR WINDOW GLASS, REAR LEFT OR RIGHT (PROTECTION) .

Cold processing:

Comply with instructions on gluing windows,

refer to 51 31... REMOVING WINDSCREEN WITH "ROLL OUT 2000"

Warm processing:

Open rear end of aluminum membrane in cartridge before installing in cartridge oven.

Heat glue cartridges to 80 °C for one hour in oven (sourcing reference: BMW Part).

Comply with instructions on gluing windows,

refer to 51 31... REMOVING WINDSCREEN WITH "ROLL OUT 2000"

Remove frame (1) from door window.

Should frame (1) in lower area be bonded on, frame (1) must be cut through at lower corners (2).

Attach fabric adhesive tape to following car parts:

Door window, front and top
Window guide, outside
Window cavity, rear

Fit straight blade with adjustable roller (sourcing reference: BMW Part) on tool and set dimension (X).

Dimension (X) = 16 mm

NOTE: Resharpen knife with machine running.

Carefully insert knife between window guide (1) at top and door window (2).

Run knife blade downwards parallel to door window.

Fit knife (24 mm blade length, sourcing reference: BMW Part) to the tool.

NOTE: Resharpen knife with machine running.

Carefully insert knife at window guide (1) between door frame at top and door window (2).

Run knife blade towards rear parallel to door window up to window cavity.

Carefully press out door window.

Cut through glue bead at bottom with scalpel (1) and remove door window.

Cut off old glue in body opening to a thickness of approx. 0.5 mm.

To avoid paintwork damage, carefully cut off glue residue with scalpel.

Remove glue tape all round. Clean body aperture with 2-propanol.

CAUTION: To provide long-term corrosion inhibition, damage to paintwork (scratches and large areas of damage) should always be touched up,
refer to 51 31... REMOVING WINDSCREEN WITH "ROLL OUT 2000"

CAUTION: The basic filler must have hardened!

Treat glued area of body with materials approved by BMW (repair kit, Sourcing Reference: BMW Part),

refer to 51 31... REMOVING WINDSCREEN WITH "ROLL OUT 2000"

NOTE: Note ventilation time!

Detach liner (protective strip on adhesive areas) from new insulating material (1).

Insert insulating material (1) in window frame.

Only when reusing the door window:

If necessary, remove rest of frame.

Remove fabric adhesive tape and clean door window with 2-propanol.

Using a scalpel, carefully remove glue residue on door window to a thickness of approx. 0.5 mm.

Treat glued area (1) of door window all round with materials approved by BMW (repair kit, sourcing reference: BMW Part),

refer to 51 31... REMOVING WINDSCREEN WITH "ROLL OUT 2000"

NOTE: Note ventilation time!

Stick on spacers (2) (sourcing reference: BMW Part).

Dimension (X) = 6 mm

Fit new frame (1).

Cut standard nozzle to size.

NOTE: To apply uniform glue bead, use cartridge pistol, operated with compressed air or electric power.

CAUTION: Note expiry date of glue!

If applicable, produce a sample bead before gluing.

Cartridge must be perpendicular to door window.

Shape of glue bead:

(A) 7 mm

(B) 10_-1 mm

(X) 3⁺¹ mm

CAUTION: Apply glue bead promptly and install door window with frame.
Skin forms after 10 minutes.

Carefully position door window first at bottom (A), align laterally (B) and then install and press into place at top (C).

Secure door window in position with fabric adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).

CAUTION: Remove dirt from residual glue with Sika-Entferner 208 (sourcing reference: BMW Part) before glue is hard. Do not press door window out again for this purpose. Hardened glue can only be removed by machine.

Assemble car.

Remove fabric adhesive tape after glue has hardened.

NOTE: Leaks are detected by spraying with water on the sealing lips or by using an ultrasonic leak tester and can then be sealed with an appropriate nozzle.
