Cars With Primary Catalytic Converters Only (M62)

Release screws (1) in floor trim panel (2).

Press floor trim panel (2) down a little.

Pull off cap (1) on battery positive lead.

Release nut on battery positive lead (2).

Disconnect battery positive lead (2).

Loosen screw (3).

Remove lead holder (4).

Release expansion rivet (5).

Pull panel (6) down a little.

Withdraw battery positive lead (2).

Remove cover cap (1) on starter.

Unfasten nut (2).

Tightening torque, see 12 41 4AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE .

Remove battery positive lead (3) from lead holder (4).

Withdraw battery positive lead (3).

Unscrew bolts (1).

Remove shield plate (2).

Unfasten cable connector (1).

Remove battery positive lead (3) from lead holders (2).

Unfasten cable clip (2).

Remove battery positive lead from lead holders (1).

Press press-stud fasteners (1...4) in succession and at same time raise acoustic cover slightly.

Remove acoustic cover once all four press-stud fasteners have been unlocked.

Installation

Position acoustic cover and press downwards until press-stud fasteners (1...4) click into place.

Remove seal caps (2) and release screws.

Remove cover.

Detach battery positive lead from battery positive support point (1).

Release nut (1) on alternator.

Tightening torque, see 12 31 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE .

Remove battery positive lead (3) from lead holder (2).

Disconnect battery positive lead (3) from alternator.

Cut through cable straps between alternator and battery positive support point.

Remove battery positive lead (3) towards bottom.

To facilitate assembly, bend connecting lead (2) to alternator 90 degrees prior to installation.

Observe markings (1) on battery positive lead during installation.

Insert battery positive lead (1) behind left engine support arm towards top.
