Transmission Disassembly

  1. Install transmission in holding fixture. Drain fluid. Remove converter retaining hoop. Use handles and remove torque converter. Ensure converter bearings and shaft seal are not damaged when torque converter is removed.
  2. Remove oil cooler and "O" rings. See Fig 2 . Remove manual shift cable bracket, then remove cable and TR switch. Remove oil pan and gasket. Remove oil container plate with magnet. Remove oil filter and "O" ring. Remove valve body harness from case by connector plug clip on outside of transmission case with a screwdriver. Remove 12 bolts and remove valve body. See Fig 1 .

    NOTE: Valve body overhaul procedures are not available. If valve body is faulty, manufacturer recommends replacing valve body as an assembly.

  3. Attach Assembly Fixture (24 1 180) to stator shaft. See Fig 3 . Rotate Assembly Fixture center spindle to relieve torque on oil pump and stator shaft. Remove oil pump, intermediate plate and stator shaft. Remove input shaft with clutches "A", "B" and "C".

  4. Remove 3 Torx-head bolts and lift out planetary gear drive with clutch "D" and brake clutches "E1" and "E2". Remove 5 bolts and remove extension housing, output flange and parking gear. See Fig 4 . Remove 12 Torx head screws and remove brake clutch "F".

Assembly is reverse of disassembly. For component installation, see ASSEMBLY under appropriate component under COMPONENT DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY.
