Oil Supply: Reassembly

  1. Using an appropriate press, install sealing ring and needle bearing into oil pump. See Figure . Install wave washer. Press shaft seal into oil pump. Install snap ring. Install oil pump inner and outer gears so that identification marks are facing up. Press in alignment pin. Install NEW "O" ring on outer edge of oil pump. Install 2 square cut seals onto stator shaft.
  2. Install 2 alignment pins into centering plate. Install intermediate plate on centering plate. Heat plates to about 158° F (70° C) with a hot air gun or equivalent. Install stator shaft onto plates with 3 bolts. Remove alignment pins and install remaining 2 bolts. Tighten stator shaft-to-intermediate plate bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install oil pump onto centering plate. Install 10 oil pump-to-intermediate plate bolts. Tighten one small bolt to 44 INCH lbs. (5 N.m) and 9 large bolts to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m). Ensure oil pump gears turn freely after assembly. DO NOT install NEW "O" ring onto outer edge of oil pump assembly until input end play is checked and corrected if necessary.
  4. Install bearing race, needle bearing and selective shim onto input shaft. Align suction and pressure ports of oil pump assembly with bores in transmission case. Install oil pump assembly into transmission case. Install 2 oil pump assembly-to-transmission case bolts. Torque to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).
  5. To determine input end play, attach Measuring Device (5P01 001 415) to stator shaft. See Fig 1 . Push Measuring Device down over input shaft splines and tighten locking screw. Pull handle of Measuring Device upwards. End play should be .004-.012" (.10-.30 mm). If end play is not as specified, remove oil pump assembly and install correct selective shim. Shim thicknesses are not available from manufacturer.

  6. Remove oil pump assembly. Install NEW "O" ring onto outer edge of oil pump assembly and coat with ATF. Install oil pump assembly into transmission. Ensure that suction and pressure ports of oil pump assembly are aligned with suction and pressure bores of transmission case. Install 14 oil pump-to-transmission case bolts with NEW washers. Tighten bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Recheck input end play. See step  5 .
