Extension Housing: Reassembly

WARNING: Ensure inner bearing races are installed in correct positions.
  1. Using a press, install bearing from inside of extension housing. Install snap ring. See Figure . Using appropriate installer, fit new shaft seal from outside of extension housing. Install extension housing on Counter Support Holder (24 0 190) and clamp holder in vise. Install extension housing on output flange, then fit "O" ring to extension housing. Install slotted nut and torque to specification with Insert (24 4 110). See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Stake slotted nut at 2 points. Install parking pawl gear onto gear set No. 3 shaft.
  2. Set extension housing in holding tool so output flange is facing down and free to turn. Tap lightly downward on output flange slotted nut so end play is eliminated. Position gauge bar across output flange slotted nut. Using depth gauge, measure distance between gauge bar to machined surface of extension housing. This will be specification "A". Using depth gauge, measure distance between machined surface on rear of transmission case and parking pawl gear. This will be specification "B".
  3. Required end play is .010-.018" (.25-.45 mm) and will be specification "C". Use the following formula: "B" - "A" - "C" = selective shim size. Install correct selective shim onto parking pawl gear in transmission case. Shim thicknesses are not available from manufacturer. Install extension housing on transmission case and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
