Replacing Carbon Brushes (Starter Motor With Countershaft)

NOTE: With Starter motor countershaft dismantled.
  1. Precision-grind and polish armature. File away or mill out insulation between the collector discs to depth of .5 to .7 mm. After machining, check that windings are secure.
  2. Slide carbon brush holder toward center and lift up. Fully engage hooks on carbon brush holder. The strands of two carbon brushes must be separated. Solder in new carbon brushes.
