Oil Pan Upper Section: Removal

NOTE: For removal of oil pan, front axle support must be lowered. There is no need to perform a front axle alignment check.
  1. Lift engine hood into assembly position. Disconnect damper on hood, open hood fully and secure with a bolt on left and right sides. See Figure . Rotate bolts through 90 degrees. Remove cover from cylinder head cover. Remove suction-filter housing with air-mass sensor. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
  2. Remove top left and right nuts on engine mount. See Figure . Install Fixture (00 0 200) to Support Bridge (00 0 201), Spindle (00 0 202), Adapter (00 0 204) and Support Foot (00 0 208) and attach. See Fig 3 . Secure Hoist (11 0 000) to Fixture (00 0 200). Tighten bolts (1 and 2). See Fig 4 . Lift engine with hoist about 6-8 mm. See Fig 3 .
    NOTE: The support foot must make contact with bolts on side walls.
  3. Removing guide tube for dipstick. See DIPSTICK GUIDE TUBE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Removing lower section of oil pan. See OIL PAN LOWER SECTION  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Relieving load on A/C drive belt and removing adjusting plate from oil pan.
  4. Remove bolt. Remove hydraulic line bracket from power steering pump. See Fig 5 . Remove and secure power steering pump to prevent hydraulic lines from being under tension. See Fig 6 . If necessary, remove stud bolt and unfasten upper section of oil pan. Disconnect positive battery lead connection on alternator. Remove bolt on retaining clip on engine mounting arm. See Fig 7 .

  5. Remove bolts and remove protective tube from oil pan. Remove bolts from retaining plate on front axle support, unclip line and remove retaining plate. Remove bolts and remove heat baffle plate. See Fig 8 -Fig 10 . Remove bracket for positive battery cable on crankcase. See Fig 11 . Remove return line for engine oil from oil pan with Crow Foot Wrench (00 9 160). See Fig 12 . Remove steering spindle from steering gear.
  6. Unfasten bracket for hydraulic line from front axle support. See Fig 13 . Brace front axle support with Hydraulic Lifter (00 2 030) and stands. Remove front axle support from engine support and lower about 2.3" (60 mm). Remove bolts inside oil pan. See Fig 14 . Remove oil pump. See OIL PUMP  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove bolts to sealing cover. See Fig 15 . Remove remaining bolts from oil pan. Lift upper section of oil pan forward to remove.
