Valves & Valve Springs

Remove camshaft. See CAMSHAFTS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Compress valve springs. Remove valve keepers. Remove valve springs, spring retainers and valve stem oil seals.

  1. Align spark plug recesses in valve supports with spark plugs in cylinder head. See Fig 2 . Install Valve Spring Remover/Installer (11 0 180) from below in Support Frame (11 1 065) and locate with Lock Pin (11 1 045). Align Valve Spring Cage (11 0 341) in direction of valve axle and select appropriate groove in Pressure Lever (11 0 342). See Fig 3 . Press down valve spring cap, top, and remove valve keys. Remove valve spring and plate spring. See Fig 4 .
  2. If one spring of inner or outer spring set is damaged or broken, both springs must be replaced. Only use inner and outer springs of same make and with same color code. See Fig 5 - Fig 6 .
