Brake Caliper

  1. Use repair kit.
  2. Remove brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Dismantle brake caliper and remove brake pads. See BRAKE DISC PADS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
    4. WARNING: Compressed air at 145 psi (10 bar) produces a force of approximately 1250 N. Do not grip piston with fingers. There is a risk of trapping.
  4. To protect the piston, place a protective plate (hardwood, hard felt or similar) in the caliper duct. Press piston out through connecting bore using compressed air. See Fig 1 .
  5. Check guide sleeves (5). If necessary, fit repair kit guide sleeves. See Fig 2 .
  6. Carefully remove sealing ring with a plastic needle. See Fig 3 .
  7. Clean cylinder bores and components with spirits and dry with compressed air.
  8. Carefully check cylinder bore, piston and flange faces for signs of damage. Machining of cylinders and pistons is not permitted.
  9. Apply a light coat of ATE brake cylinder paste to all parts.
    10. CAUTION: Do not tilt piston.
  10. Fit protective rubber cap to the piston. Insert sealing bulge of protective cap in the groove of the cylinder bore and press in piston with a hardwood plate. See Fig 4 .
  11. Assemble brake caliper.
  12. Press brake pad fully outwards and insert retaining spring (4). See Fig 5 .
  13. Install caliper to vehicle. See BRAKE CALIPER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
