12 42 500 Removing And Installing Or Replacing Battery Positive Lead (Between Starter, Alternator And Battery Positive Support Point) (M60, M62): Notes
Switch off ignition.
Observe safety instructions for handling vehicle battery.
Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. See 12 00 Instructions For Disconnecting And Connecting Battery .
Disconnect negative battery lead.
Cars without primary catalytic converters only (M60, M62) Unfasten screw connection on oil-filter housing
Place oil-filter housing to one side.
Disconnect alternator connections.
Connections illustrated here on removed alternator.
Unfasten plug connection (1).
Unfasten nut (2).
Tightening torque, see 12 31 1AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE .
Unscrew and remove splash guard.
Unfasten screw on retaining clip on engine mounting arm.
Unfasten screws on guide tube on oil pan.
Impact protection for battery positive wire on floor of vehicle.
Unfasten screws.
Remove impact protector.
Battery positive lead on starter, release nut.
Disconnect battery positive lead.
Tightening torque, see 12 41 4AZ in ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - TIGHTENING TORQUE .
Lift rubber cap off positive battery support point on floor assembly.
Unfasten nut.
Unscrew screw.
Remove positive battery line.
