Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 34 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove wheel bearing. See WHEEL BEARING .
  2. Unfasten tie rod nut. Pull off tie rod with special tool (32 3 090). See Figure.
  3. Unfasten control arm nut. Press control arm off steering knuckle with special tool (32 3 090). See Figure.
  4. Secure steering knuckle against falling off. Unscrew multi-purpose bolt. If necessary, spread out steering knuckle with special tool (31 2 200) and remove. See Figure.
  5. To install, remove guard plate and attach to new steering knuckle. See Fig 1.
  6. Insert positioning pin (1) into gap and press steering knuckle upwards onto stop. See Figure.
  7. Tighten bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Install control arm on steering knuckle and replace self-locking nut. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Install tie rod and replace self-locking nut. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Install wheel bearing. See WHEEL BEARING .
