Wheel Bearing: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect output shaft at drive flange, and suspend shaft aside. Remove brake caliper bolts and brake caliper. Remove hex head screw and remove rotor.
  2. Remove lock plate. Mount Flange Holder (33-4-000) with 2 bolts (M10 x 30 mm) to drive flange, and remove collar nut. See Figure.
  3. Remove flange holder and pull off drive flange using 2 bolts (M10 x 30 mm) and Universal Puller Bridge (00-7-501). Install collar nut flush with end of shaft. Knock shaft out using a soft-faced mallet.
  4. Remove snap ring. Remove wheel bearing using Rear Wheel Bearing Remover/Installer (33-4-031), Spindle (33-4-032) and Support Nut/Bearing (33-4-038) on brake shoe side or Disc (33-4-033) on drive flange side. If necessary, remove inner bearing shell from rear axle shaft using Universal Puller (00-7-500).
