Temperature Gauge Test

Disconnect sending unit lead (Brown/Violet wire) and connect it to ground. Turn ignition on briefly. If gauge needle moves into Red zone, gauge is okay but temperature sending unit may be defective. If needle does not move into Red zone, check continuity of sending unit wire. If sending unit and wiring are okay, gauge is inoperative.
