Primary (Oil) Pump: Inspection
- Clean all parts and check for signs of damage or scoring. Check clearance between pump driven gear and pump body. Pump driven gear-to-pump body clearance should be .003-.006" (.07-.15 mm).
- Check pump body-to-pump driven gear radial play while rotating pump driven gear 360 degrees. Pump body-to-pump driven gear radial play should be .0008-.0016" (.020-.040 mm). Check clearance of primary pump with Engaging Bushing (243140).
- Using depth micrometer, measure gear axial clearance from surface of pump body to surface on pump gear on both pump drive and driven gears. Gear axial clearance should be .008-.016" (.20-.40 mm). If any component is defective or measurement is not within specification, replace oil pump assembly.
