Steering Wheel: Removal

  1. Before proceeding further, follow the air bag service precautions. Refer to SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable SRS. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Remove air bag module. See AIR BAG MODULE. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove steering wheel hub nut and note spring clip is now holding contact ring in center position. Note alignment reference marks on steering wheel to steering shaft.
  3. Unlock steering lock before pulling off steering wheel. Pull steering wheel off by hand, or if necessary, use proper steering wheel puller to remove steering wheel. Carefully guide contact ring wiring up through steering column, while removing steering wheel/contact ring.
