Contact Ring: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable SRS. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove air bag module. See DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG MODULE. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. With steering wheel removed from column, remove round covering from bottom of steering wheel. Mark position of inner circlip ring to large outer hub. Unscrew retaining nuts from studs. Pressing downward, turn and remove circlip ring from steering wheel large outer hub.
  3. On front side of steering wheel, lift out spring/clip lock with small screwdriver. See Figure . Remove 3 contact ring retaining screws from steering wheel hub. Remove contact ring from bottom of steering wheel, carefully passing wiring through openings in wheel.
