Drive Shafts

Two piece drive shaft is joined in the center by a sliding splined coupling. This coupling compensates for slight front-and-back movement of engine and transmission. Front of drive shaft is connected to transmission by either a flexible rubber coupling or a universal joint. See Figure . Rear of drive shaft is connected to differential assembly through a constant velocity (CV) joint. Drive shaft center section is supported by a center bearing which is attached to body through a rubber mount to isolate vibration. Front of drive shaft is aligned with transmission by a centering guide. The guide is recessed into front of driveshaft and it engages a centering pin on transmission output flange when drive shaft is installed.
