Rear Wheel Bearing: Removal

  1. Disconnect axle shaft and suspend from car on a piece of wire. See appropriate AXLE SHAFT article in DRIVE AXLES.
  2. Remove brake disc. See BRAKE DISCS  .
  3. Lift out lockplate and remove ABS speed sensor.
  4. Mount special tool 33 4 000 with two 10 x 30 mm bolts. Unscrew collar nut.
  5. Pull off drive flange with Special Tool 00 7 501 and two 10 x 30 mm bolts.
  6. Screw on collar nut flush with end of shaft and drive out with a nylon hammer.
  7. Lift out circlip. See Fig 1 .
  8. Pull out wheel bearings with special tool 33 4 031/032/033/038/039. See Fig 2 .
  9. Pull bearing inner race off of the rear axle shaft with special tool 00 7 500. See Fig 3 .
