Transmission Case

  1. Remove cross member and exhaust support bracket (if necessary). Secure transmission in holding de vice and drain oil. Remove guide sleeve, cover, spring and locking pin from upper right front of housing. Unscrew back up light switch.
  2. Drive out locating pins and remove bolts and hex head screw on rear housing. Remove front bearing race, snap ring and washer. Using a puller, remove front housing. Remove rear lock plate. Using a clamping tool, hold output flange and unscrew collar nut. Remove bearing cover hex bolts.
  3. Remove input shaft and layshaft from trans mission case. Knock ball bearing out of case using Special Tools (23 1 190) and (00 5 500). Pull bearing inner race off of input shaft with Special Tools (23 1 230) and (00 7 500).
  4. Knock the layshaft roller bearing out with Special Tools (23 1 220) and (00 5 500). Press bearing inner race off of layshaft with a screwdriver.
  5. For output shaft, remove radial oil seal, spacer and bail bearing inner race. Knock out bail bearing with Special Tools (23 1 080) and (00 5 500). Pull bearing inner race off of output shaft with Special Tools (23 1 100) and (00 7 500).
