Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling: Notes

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit :VAS 6617 
• Torx Socket - T60 :T40087 

Conditions

• Transmission fluid temperature at approximately 20 °C (room temperature).
• Move vehicle onto a four-pillar workshop hoist or over a work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.

Draining

The transmission fluid is drained via the transmission fluid pump.

-- Remove the transmission fluid pump. Refer to Transmission Fluid Pump, Removing and Installing  .

Filling

-- Install the transmission fluid pump. Refer to Transmission Fluid Pump, Removing and Installing  .

-- Remove the plug -arrow- for the right inspection and fill hole on the transmission housing with the Torx Socket - T60 :T40087  .

-- Use the Pressurized Gearbox Oil Filler Kit :VAS 6617  to slowly add the transmission fluid.

-- Repeat the procedure gradually every 15 seconds, until the transmission fluid is 2 mm under the lower edge of the inspection and fill hole.

Tip

It is important to follow the waiting period to make sure the various oil spaces in the transmission are filled equally.

-- Tighten the plug.
